BOISE, Idaho — With the holidays in full swing, you're probably planning to head out of town to see friends and family. AAA Idaho is out with a checklist of what drivers should do before those trips.

An estimated 614,000 Idahoans are expected to travel this holiday season, and they'll be met with lower gas prices as they leave. However, AAA says having a full tank of gas is just one of a few things you should keep in mind before your trip.

"It's not too late to go out there, and just double check. Make sure your battery isn't weak, that it's turning over for you on those cold mornings, and also make sure you have adequate tire pressure. Not just for the tires on the car but the spare tire as well," said AAA Idaho spokesperson Matthew Conde.

Experts say a record 116 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this season, four million more than last year. The heaviest travel will likely start on December 26 and 27 as people head home.
