The Malibu Rider Experience brought the west regional wakeboarding competition to Broadside Harbor Ski Lakes in Caldwell for the first time.

The World Wake Association in partnership with Malibu Boats and Idaho Water Sports brought in professionals to help mentor the young athletes as they competed for a spot in nationals in Seattle in a couple of months.

"This is one of the best venues that they have because it is just a private lake and it is so smooth," said Ben Brown of Kentucky who was competing in the jr. pro division.

Organizers turned this into a weekend event and after Saturday's competition, the Malibu Rider Experience will turn their attention to wake surfing on Sunday.

"It is all about wake surfing behind the boat and Malibu's surf gate technology so riders are wake surfing, having fun and hanging out with the Malibu pro athletes," said Corrie Wilson of the World Wake Association. "It's fun, it's got something for everybody."

Malibu Pro Athlete Brian Grubb was on hand to mentor the young athletes and to see more on how the competition went check out the video.
