Seniors across the Treasure Valley are hiring "Halloween Helpers" through Visiting Angels on Tuesday, Oct. 31, to help them experience the fun -- not the fear -- of the holiday.

Visiting Angels, an in-home senior care company, says seniors can hire a helper to decorate, answer the door and hand out candy, as well as provide peace of mind during the holiday.

"Quite often we provide care for people who have Alzheimer's or dementia, because this is a really tough holiday for them with all of the door knocking and the extra noises and faces," said Matthew Croft, Visiting Angels Director. "It can be really unnerving. So, it's a good idea to either have a caregiver in the home, if you have someone with Alzheimer's or dementia, or make sure that there's a family member there to help take care of them."

Visiting Angels says one-third of all seniors who live at home, live alone, and most are women.

Seasonal helpers are also available for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
