CALDWELL, Idaho — Vallivue High School earned $10,000 for their art program by placing second in the National Vans Custom Culture Contest.

The shoes were designed around two main ideas: the "local flavor" of Idaho and the Treasure Valley, and "Off the Wall," one of Vans' key branding slogans.

"My kids told me that they jumped up and down literally," said Dan Andrews, the head of Vallivue High's Art Department. "They were excited, and not only the kids, but the families were really excited. There's a whole community that's rallied around this."

Both Vallivue and Ridgevue High in the Vallivue District made it into the top 25 nationally in the physical shoe design contest.

Vans Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design. One of the main intentions is to bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets in schools.
