A Meridian couple is safe after being caught in the chaos at a Las Vegas mass shooting that left 59 people dead.
Josh Stewart and his wife Nicole never expected a war zone in Vegas, but that's exactly what they got.
They won tickets to the country music festival through WOW 104.3 and expected the trip of a lifetime. What they got instead, made them want to leave Las Vegas immediately and never return.
"We went from the trip of a lifetime to an absolute nightmare in a matter of seconds." says Stewart.
Like everyone else, the two didn't think they were hearing gunshots at first, but then country star Jason Aldean ran from the stage.
"He just bailed," remembers Stewart, "and then the whole band bailed off the stage and that's when everybody decided this wasn't right and we needed to get out of there."
Josh and Nicole hid behind a car for shelter with chaos all around them.
"The shooting started again and we were hiding behind a car and some people came around the car and laid a lady in my lap basically who had been shot in the arm," says Stewart.
Ironically, he and his wife made it to the MGM Grand safely only to have Nicole trampled when a false alarm of another shooter was reported there.
"So it was kind of mass hysteria again and she got ran over by a guy." relates Stewart, "Trampled and bruised and banged up, but nothing life-threatening."
After all that, they couldn't wait to leave Las Vegas.
"This is my wife's first trip to Vegas and it will probably be her last," says Stewart, "We just want to go home. "
