Two drivers were taken to hospitals following a head-on collision in Blaine County Wednesday.

Deputies say the crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. on State Highway 75, about thirteen miles south of Bellevue.

Geraldine Helm, 49, of Twin Falls, driving a black 2014 Volkswagen Passat, was traveling south, according to investigators. Daniel Jerke, 28, of Kimberly, driving a red 1995 Ford Explorer, was traveling north.

Both drivers were injured. Jerke was transported to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital in Twin Falls by Wood River Ambulance. Helm was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.

State Highway 75 was closed for about two hours during rush hour traffic, while first responders from Wood River Fire and Rescue extricated Helm from her vehicle. Traffic was diverted to Highway 20, according to Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey.

The vehicles collided on the pavement, according to the Sheriff, but came to rest off the shoulder of the highway.

Both vehicles had extensive front end damage and air bag deployment.

The crash is still under investigation.

No citations have been issued.
