Traffic changes have come to Library Square in Nampa. Changes the city says make improvements, but not all residents agree. Crews have been working on these changes since Wednesday. When they are complete, The city says it will be safer for motorists and pedestrians.
New traffic patterns are being put in after the city reached out to a consultant. City officials say there was an obvious need for improvement in both safety and function. The new changes, catching some off-guard.
"When I first came around the other day I was that I said hey what oh," explained one resident.
One of the changes, East-bound drivers on 3rd street south will now have two thru lanes at 12th avenue south. The city says that will reduce traffic build up in the middle lane.
"I think the new traffic patterns are going to be great for the drivers it's going to be a lot more efficient and I think it's going to speed up the commute to work and to school, " Said another resident.
Yet some aren't so impressed. Saying they haven't seen much of improvement yet. Adding ever since the city put one-way streets, things have been a nightmare.
"It's going to be questionable if they will have traffic flowing freely. Because it's a constant traffic jam through here," said a third resident.
Crews hope to have all of the new traffic patterns completed by early Saturday morning.
1) Eastbound drivers on 3rd Street South will now have two thru lanes at 12th Avenue South, which will reduce traffic building up in the middle lane.
2) Northbound lanes on 12th Avenue South will be reduced to two lanes at 3rd Street South to reduce the number of lane changes necessary to get drivers into the correct lane before reaching the intersection of 12th Avenue South and 2nd Street South.
3) Modify the lane striping through the intersection of 12th Avenue South and 2nd Street South to improve traffic flows to northbound 11th Avenue.
4) Eliminate one of two southbound right-turn lanes on 12th Avenue South to reduce pedestrian conflicts at the intersection of 12th Avenue South and 2nd Street South.
