With the air quality levels in the Treasure Valley peaking in the unhealthy levels, even indoor air can be unhealthy as smoke makes its way into homes.
We spoke with experts at Western Heating and Air Conditioning and they said the best thing to do is make sure your home is sealed. They also said to run your air conditioning fan continuously, and make sure you use a good air filter or replace your existing one with a clean one.
"Sometimes if it's just the cheaper filters or the little one inch filters you're not going to get as much of a difference. There are nicer filters out there. There are indoor air purifiers. There are thicker media style filters. Every little bit is going to make a difference," said Zac Barners, with Western Heating and Air Conditioning.
Many filters actually come with a rating called a MERV, the higher the number the better.
For those with chronic respiratory problems they said you are probably going to have to take extra steps.
"I would always recommend looking into an air filtration system or an air purifier," said Barnes.
