The Super Bowl brings big dollars to Boise businesses

BOISE, Idaho — According to the National Retail Federation the average American spends $88 on Super Bowl Sunday and the majority of those dollars gets spent on food and drinks.

We checked in with a couple of sports bars who prepared for the big game in different ways.

McCleary's Pub on the Boise Bench decorated their bar with both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers memorabilia.

“Because we do have a stark contrast of Chief’s and 49er fans we decided we would split the bar in half," said Amanda Jennings of McCleary's Pub. "It's kind of a refreshing Super Bowl and we decided to go all out this year."

The R Bar on Broadway has catered to Niners fan for the last ten years to this business hoped to take advantage of San Francisco making it to the biggest football game in the world.

"Anytime the Niners are on Sunday we give them the big screen and the sound," said Eddie Rasachanh of the R Bar. "They are a fun group it's going to be squirrelly and loud."

Albertsons was packed on Sunday and the Super Bowl has turned into the second biggest day of the year for food only behind Thanksgiving.

It's also the second biggest grilling day of the year behind only the 4th of July.

Here are some more interesting numbers associated with the Super Bowl.

Most popular food chicken wings - 1.5 billion.
Pizza is the second most popular food and one in seven Americans order delivery on Super Bowl Sunday.
Americans chow down on 11 million pounds of potato chips, 8 million tortilla chips and 8 million pounds of guacamole.
50 million cases of beer will be sold which equals out to more than $10 billion.
On Monday following the Super Bowl 1.5 million Americans will call in sick.
