BOISE — On Sunday, the Idaho Air National Guard's 124th Fighter Wing held the long-standing military tradition that comes with new leadership taking over command of a unit.

Col. Tim Donnellan has been the commander of the Fighter Wing for the last four years and will move on to serve as the Idaho Air National Guard Chief of Staff within the Idaho Military Division.

"It's been absolutely amazing, probably the most humbling, intense and amazing professional experience I've had in 27 years in the military," said Col. Donnellan. "What these men and women do for the 124th Fighter Wing everyday is truly awe-inspiring."

Col. Shannon Smith will now take over command of the 124th Fighter Wing.

"Our Fighter Wing has a long history to include the Air National Guard since 1946," said Col. Smith. "There is a lot to live up to."

Busy times lay ahead for the unit as they will head to the National Training Center this summer before deploying in the Spring of 2020.

"We will continue our mission to fight and win our country's wars," said Col. Smith. "And we will always be Idaho guardsmen."
