More than 600 Treasure Valley residents are now unemployed after a company announced major layoffs this week. SYKES Boise had been operating at the HP campus until early this week.

Officials with the Idaho Department of Labor say they were notified the company would be laying off employees who were mostly doing customer service at the call center. Those officials say they hope with low unemployment, the now jobless employees can find work quickly.

"There's an opportunity for every one of these people to find employment right away because there are like-companies here in the valley that are looking for that skill set," said John Russ, area manager for the Idaho Department of Labor.

Russ says anyone who finds themselves unemployed can turn to the Department of Labor for training, help with connecting with a new employer and assistance in filing for unemployment, based on eligibility.
