BOISE, Idaho — St. Luke's announced on Twitter Wednesday that they have received a shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The Moderna vaccine is the second vaccine to be approved by the FDA and the CDC.

The Moderna vaccine can be stored at warmer temperatures than the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine. Both vaccines have shown to be more than 90 percent effective.

The COVID-19 vaccines are also headed to rural counties in Idaho today. Air St. Luke's is helping to deliver the vaccines to the rural counties. St. Luke's in McCall and Wood River will receive a total of 600 doses between the two. St. Luke's says this will help expedite the distribution to rural Tier 1 and 2 front-line health care workers.

Anita Kissee, the public relations manager for St. Luke's, said on Twitter that healthcare workers in Canyon County are also receiving their vaccines Wednesday.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 6,538 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Idaho.
