The Saint Alphonsus Health System received their first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine Monday and will be distributing thousands of doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine to their frontline worker this week.

Dr. Steve Nemerson held a news briefing Monday and addressed concerns some people have about the vaccine. He says the testing was thorough and everyone without a history of a severe allergic reaction should be confident in its safety.

"I feel very comfortable giving it to myself and my family members when they qualify and recommend it to anyone who is an adult, that qualifies for the vaccine," said Dr. Nemerson. "I recommend it highly."

Dr. Nemerson says those who get the vaccine are monitored for 15 minutes as a precaution to ensure they don't have a reaction. He says Saint Alphonsus is focused on the Pfizer vaccine but will be just as prepared to receive the Moderna vaccine when it receives approval from the FDA.

The Moderna vaccine is just as effective but requires less severe refrigeration.
