A south-central Idaho man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder following the drive-by shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

The Times-News reports that 21-year-old Gerardo Chavez pleaded guilty Friday in 5th District Court in exchange for prosecutors dismissing a charge of intimidating a witness.

Authorities say Chavez and Jose Daniel Alvarez killed Vason Widaman over a drug-related dispute in May 2017.

Alvarez has pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

Chavez faces 20 years to life in prison at his sentencing scheduled for Nov. 6.

Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loebs says Widamen’s family actively participated in discussions leading to the plea agreement.
