Meridian Police have evacuated several residents in the vicinity of Millennium Way and Overland Roads, where a man had evidently barricaded himself in an apartment.

“We have a suspect from an attempted strangulation and aggravated assault barricaded in an apartment," said Meridian police deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

“The only know the weapon at this time is a knife,” he added.

Police have evacuated the surrounding apartments.

The suspect's name has not been released.

The suspect is believed to be alone in the apartment, according to police.

The apartment complex is near Mountain View High School, however the school is on spring break.

According to an Ada County dispatch supervisor, the situation started about 6:45 a.m. Thursday morning with a call of a “domestic situation” at one of the apartments in the 1800 block of East Overland Road.

Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies are also on the scene.
