PAYETTE COUNTY — UPDATE:

Two men have been killed in a trench collapse in rural Payette County.

Payette County says the men were 59-year-old Javier Ortega, Jr. of New Plymouth and 51-year-old Arcenio Carrillo of Vale. The county has not yet been able to confirm the company the men were working for.

The two were trapped when a trench collapsed on SW 1st Street near Akron Road.

“Emergency response personnel were not able to resuscitate the two men. They died as a result of this incident,” said Payette County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Andy Creech. “The men were working for a private company, installing irrigation pipes, when the trench they were working in collapsed.”

A GoFundMe has been started for the family of Ortega to help them pay for funeral expenses. If you'd like to donate, you can do so here.

The trench's collapse is under investigation.
