BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Investigators say a Boise police officer was either asleep or drowsy when his patrol vehicle hit an oncoming car in October.

The Idaho Statesman reported that the Ada County Sheriff's Office submitted a report on the accident to the county prosecutor's office last month. Prosecutors will decide whether Officer Richard Burch should face charges for the early morning crash.

An Idaho Transportation Department crash report includes the sheriff's office findings. It says 47-year-old Burch was driving his patrol Ford Explorer around 5:30 a.m. when it drifted into oncoming traffic. It hit a car driven by 28-year-old Michael Blanchard of Boise.

Initial police reports say Blanchard was taken to a hospital as a precaution and Burch was uninjured.

Boise police did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.
