RENO, Nev. — Reno officials will hold off considering support for Boise in its legal fight over an overturned ordinance that largely outlawed sleeping on the streets.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Mayor Hillary Schieve pulled a proposed resolution on the matter ahead of the Reno City Council meeting Wednesday.

City Attorney Karl Hall had proposed filing a legal brief in support of Boise.

Boise plans to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its case for a homeless camping ban.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year that Boise’s ordinance was unconstitutional.

Reno’s proposed legal brief drew criticism from homeless advocates, who claimed it was a step toward criminalizing homelessness.

City spokesman Jon Humbert says the mayor wanted to continue the conversation before bringing the issue to the council.
