BOISE — A bill allowing first responders to break into a vehicle in order to rescue an animal is introduced at the statehouse.

The Dog and Cat Rescue Act is one lawmakers have seen before, and it's back for this legislative session. The act is limited to only dogs and cats, no other animals, at least for now.

The bill would offer protection for those responders from civil penalty or lawsuits.

"In very generic terms, any dog or cat, it allows the first responders to make that call, but it is limited to only first responders."

Which would allow paramedics, firefighters, and police officers to decide necessary measures leaving it up to regular citizens to call first responders in instances where they believe the animal is in distress.

A decision on the bill will be made in the coming weeks.
