A Caldwell man and woman are in the Canyon County Jail after police say they endangered several children playing near a street and caused extensive damage to a fence in a Caldwell neighborhood.
About 7:20 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of a crash in the 200 block of W. Elgin Street in Caldwell. As officers arrived, they found a Honda passenger car that had been driven through a fence and caused extensive damage. “Witnesses on scene reported that the car had just driven through a residential area nearby at a high rate of speed and almost struck several children who were playing near the road,” said Lt. Joey Hoadley.
“The first officer on scene began to question a male who was attempting to back the car out of the fenced area. He was later identified as Matthew Walsh of Caldwell. Witnesses identified a female on the scene, Diane Johnson, as the person driving the car when it crashed through the fence,” Hoadley stated.
Police arrested Johnson for driving under the influence, resisting officers, and not providing insurance.
Walsh was also arrested for driving under the influence and resisting officers.
Both will likely make their first court appearance Monday.
