Personnel from the Meridian Police Department, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Ada Paramedics, the Meridian Fire Department and the West Ada School District are scheduled to conduct a large-scale active shooter training scenario at Sawtooth Middle School Thursday.  The scenario is expected to from 8:00 a.m. to about 11:00 a.m.

“This scenario was developed to provide a life-like incident for SROs (School Resource Officers), fire/paramedics, command staff and the West Ada School District’s crisis response team,” said Meridian Police Department Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.  “This scenario will hone multi-agency interoperability, communication, response, tactics/movements, overall decision-making and reunification.”

The property and buildings at Sawtooth Middle School will be restricted to those participating in the scenario.

“There will be a large law enforcement response to the area for this incident,” Basterrechea stated.

Training signs will be placed around the perimeter of the school grounds, alerting the public of the law enforcement training exercise. Role players will be actual students and teachers from the district.
