It's no secret that heroin and opiate drug use is on the rise across the nation and right here in the Treasure Valley.
One local non-profit's mission is receiving a boost thanks to a national group they're partnering with called Facing Addiction.
Through a pilot program, the PEER Wellness Center in Boise is hoping to better advocate for increased services and awareness of drug addiction.
There was an 11-day stint recently in the area where someone died each day due to an accidental drug overdose.
"Nobody starts on the bathroom floor of a gas station with a needle in their arm but it can progress to that if left unchecked... if treatment is not made available... if we don't start talking about it and addressing it," says Monica Forbes, administrator at the PEER Wellness Center.
The PEER Wellness Center currently offers 130 peer-led support groups each month.
All services are free of charge. So, donations from the public are always welcome https://www.peerwellnesscenter.org/ .
