Voters in Payette County experienced delays in some precincts Tuesday morning.
The Payette County Clerk says polling places in the cities of Payette, Fruitland and New Plymouth ran out of ballots late in the morning.
“As soon as we ran out of our regular printed ballots, we invited voters to use the Express voting machines -- which are designed for use by handicapped and hearing-impaired voters. The machines are a little slow in responding, so it created some waiting lines at the precincts,” said Payette County Clerk Betty Dressen.
Voters who did not want to wait were invited to return to their polling places later in the day to cast their ballots, if they chose, Dressen said.
Officials said no voters were turned away, nor were they told they could not vote.
Each precinct has at least one voting machine designed for use by handicapped voters.
New ballots were printed, delivered to the precincts, and things were pretty much back to normal by mid-afternoon, officials said.
