The Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a male whose body was found Saturday in the Bruneau desert area of eastern Owyhee County.

“Upon initial investigation of the remains, I determined there were suspicious circumstances,” said Owyhee County Sheriff Perry Grant, adding, “At this time, I do not have details of the cause of death or the identity of the victim.”

Investigators say they do not yet know the age of the victim, nor how long he had been in the desert.

At Grant’s request, the Idaho State Police is helping the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. “We are in the very early stages,” said ISP spokesman Tim Marsano. “It’s not uncommon for (the Idaho State Police) to assist other law enforcement agencies, especially when they feel they do not have the personnel or the resources to conduct a thorough investigation.”

No further details were available.
