Nampa fire crews responded overnight to a fire on the 3400 block of E. Sir Patrick Court in Nampa. Fire officials say there's extensive damage to the garage and the house suffered some smoke damage.
A woman was taking a shower when she smelled smoke around 12:30 a.m...and called 911. When fire crews arrived the garage was fully engulfed in flames. The woman's husband and two children were also home at the time, everyone was able to make it out of the house safely. The family's dog and cat perished in the fire.
The man was treated for smoke inhalation and burns to his hands but refused transport to the hospital.
"The Nampa Fire Department is assisting the family with the burnout fund. They're staying with some neighbors and then we will be able to get them a hotel for the next week or so," said Battalion Chief Todd Banta. "The hosue is not a total loss but it's unlivable right now just because of the smoke damage throughout."
The family said the only thing they know of that may have been warm in the garage are fireworks that were soaking in a five gallon bucket. At this time there is no word on what may have caused the fire. We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.
