An Idaho politician who helped develop the Idaho National Laboratory into one of the country’s leading nuclear energy research labs has passed away.
Orval Hansen died Thursday in his Boise home, according to the Idaho Statesman.
Hansen served five terms in the Idaho legislature before being elected to Congress in the late Sixties.
During that time, he helped form the Idaho State Parks Department ... founded the Sawtooth Society with former Governor Cecil Andrus ... and was part of the congressional effort that created the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
Hansen was 91.
