The largest correctional institution in Oregon remains on lockdown after a staff member was assaulted by an inmate.

Officials say at around 10:30 Saturday Morning, Snake River Correctional Institution security staff responded to the assault. The staff member who was assaulted was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Seven other members of the staff were also taken to the hospital but have since been released.

The inmate has been taken to segregation. Neither the staff member or the inmate have been identified at this time.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Oregon State Police.

The facility is a multi-custody prison in Ontario that houses around 3,000 male inmates.
