An Ontario, Oregon couple is in the Ada County Jail after police say they stole “Christmas presents for their children.”

Scottie Powell, 24, and his wife, Stacey Warr, 26, entered a major retail store in the 700 block of West Overland Road about 4 p.m. Friday with “the intent to commit a theft,” according to Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

“They entered with only a couple of dollars and intended to steal personal hygiene items and Christmas presents for their children,” Basterrechea said. “While they were inside the store, Stacey concealed all of the items inside her large purse while Scottie acted as a lookout.”

They both selected beverages, paid for them, then passed the store registers “with $111.68 in stolen merchandise concealed inside the purse,” he stated.

The two were detained by loss prevention personnel after they left the store.

They were booked into the Ada County Jail late Saturday afternoon.

Each face a felony burglary charge.
