One woman dead, four injured after accident on Payette River in Emmett

EMMETT, Idaho — One person is dead and four others are injured after an accident on the Payette River.

Gem County Sheriff's Dispatch says a group of five adult women went into the water between the Plaza Bridge and the Washington Bridge, near the Gem Island Sports Complex.

According to dispatch, the accident happened near the diversion dam east of the Washington bridge.

The call came in around 3:12 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Dispatch says one person was airlifted to the hospital, and three were transported by ground ambulance.

The area is a popular place for floaters, but dispatchers were unsure if the group was floating when the accident happened.

The public is reminded to wear life jackets and exercise water caution when recreating.

It's still unclear what exactly happened, but dispatch says everyone involved is accounted for and the scene has been cleared.

The females ages and identities are unknown at this time.

The incident is still under investigation.
