BOISE — We are down to just more than a week from Boise State's first football game of the year against Florida State University in Jacksonville.

Starting this week and continuing through the entire season, Dave Southorn with The Athletic will share his expertise on the Bronco program and what fans can expect game-to-game. We're calling it On Your Sidelines with Dave Southorn.

Now that Brett Rypien has moved on to the NFL, it seems everyone is asking the question, "who will be the Broncos starting quarterback this year?"

"I would lean to Chase Cord because of his experience," said Southorn, who this is his 15th year covering the Broncos. "This is (Cord's) third year here. Hank Bachmeier has been here since January. He's ahead of where true freshman are, but also if you factor in Chase, the experience and the mobility, even though he's coming off his second ACL, but that aspect of him moving around might set him apart and I think this is what the offense has been gearing up to this off-season."

You can catch more from On Your Sidelines with Dave Southorn every week, and catch up with his stories anytime on The Athletic.
