NAMPA, Idaho — A team from Northwest Nazarene University brings goodwill and basketball to Cuba. The women's team just returned from Cuba where they played two games against the Cuban National Champions.
NNU won easily despite playing outside on a splintered court. NNU is the first women's basketball team from the United States to play games in Cuba. The team gave away all their supplies after the game, including knee braces, shoes, balls and clipboards.
"At first I thought maybe they'd be offended by us just offering them what we had, but just seeing how grateful they were and how much that meant to them, it just blew me away. Coming back to the United States and seeing what I have, I just feel so lucky, and I wish I could give more of it to them," said Avery Albrecht, a senior NNU basketball player.
The team members were in the Caribbean for a full week.
