The future is now for students who will be attending a new, STEM-focused school in Garden City.

Literally called "Future Public School," the new facility is the culmination of years of effort by founders and teachers to reach out to Garden City families to try and fill its student roster.

The school's co-founders hope the future-focused school will help prepare students for technology and science, with a focus on critical thought.

"We believe all schools be incorporating computer science, a strong math/engineering program, in the same way that we prioritize reading or math or some of those more traditional subjects," said co-founder Amanda Cox.

The new school opens on August 27.

It is a public charter school and uses a lottery system for enrollment.
