The Nampa Public Library is waiving late fees for folks who bring in food donations.
For the fourth year in a row, library staff is accepting food for fines during the month of December. For every canned good or non-perishable food item donated, $1 in fines will be waived, up to $10 a day.
All donated food will be given to the community food pantry at the Nampa Care House.
"We figured we could at least do it during December when, you know, people could use their money to spend on other things," said Ezequiel Luna, library circulation supervisor. "They could give some extra food to the Nampa Care House."
The Food for Fines drive only applies to late fees and doesn't include fines associated with lost or damaged items.
Last year, the Nampa Library collected just under 2,200 non-perishable food items for the Nampa Care House, and they hope to beat that number this year.
Other libraries across the valley also offer similar programs.
