NAMPA, Idaho — The Nampa Fire Chief has announced he is stepping down.

Mayor Debbie Kling and the Nampa City Council have accepted Phil Roberts' resignation, effective April 1, 2019.

Roberts explained his decision, saying, “I believe at this time, it is best for me to be close to my family. With aging parents who need care and grandbabies that I want to hold close and love."

Mayor Kling will recommend Deputy Chief of Operations Kirk Carpenter assume the role as fire chief for the City of Nampa at the regular council meeting on March 18, 2019. In a press release from the city, communications manager Amy Bowman said Deputy Chief Carpenter has been mentored by Roberts, and he is ready to take on this new responsibility. Carpenter has been working in the Nampa Fire Department for nearly 21 years.
