Multiple arrests made in Nampa homicide case

Nampa Police make multiple arrests related to an ongoing homicide investigation involving a 16-year-old man who was fatally shot.

On September 25, 2018, at about 6:40 p.m., Nampa Police officers responded to the area of the 1100 block of Powell about a fight. The investigation that followed this incident led to the arrest of Maribel Menchaca, 42, of Nampa and a 16-year-old boy for the charges of Robbery, said Nampa Police.

Just before 10:30 p.m. that night, Nampa Police responded to a call of a shooting on 11th Avenue North and Powell Avenue. When police arrived on the scene, they found a 16-year-old man, Roberto Gomez, that had been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“These arrests are the result of many hours spent by detectives investigating this case. A grand jury reviewed the evidence presented to them, related to these two cases, which led to multiple indictments,” said Lt. Eric Skoglund.

Eight people were arrested on Thursday with the following charges:

A 16-year-old man, Nampa resident – 1st-degree murder and robbery

Maribel Menchaca, 42, of Nampa – 1st-degree murder and robbery

Elizabeth Esparza, 28, of Caldwell – Accessory to a felony, aid and abet robbery, and perjury

Olivia Hernandez Santana, 35, of Caldwell – Accessory to a felony/harboring person, intimidation of a witness and perjury

A 17-year-old man, Nampa resident – Accessory to a felony, aid and abet robbery, and perjury

A 16-year-old man, Nampa resident – Accessory to a felony, and aid and abet Robbery

A 16-year-old man, Caldwell resident – Accessory to a felony, aid and abet robbery, and intimidation of a witness 

Jose Menchaca, 39, of Nampa – Accessory to felony, aid and abet robbery, and perjury

All of them were taken into custody on Thursday with the assistance of the Caldwell Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, according to Nampa Police.
