The body of a Filer woman missing for two days has been found in a canal.
Gloria Schiffler, 83, left her home near Pebble Ponds Golf Course north of Filer on July 21st, between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., according to authorities.
“She was found Monday afternoon in a lateral about five miles downstream from where she lives. (We assume) she likely fell into the water near her home,” said Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lori Stuart.
Although there were no immediate indications how or where Schiffler fell into the canal, police said there were no signs of foul play. “Family members describe her as frail," Stuart said.
An autopsy may be conducted Tuesday.
Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue led the search. Over 200 volunteers, Idaho Fish and Game officers, Idaho State Police troopers, Filer Police, Filer Fire Department, Twin Falls Canal Company, Air St. Luke’s, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue Canine Unit, Roger Vincent and George Parker with CropSet Aviation all participated in the search.
