Hunger in Idaho is a year-round issue. The Idaho Food Bank needs the community's help year-round as well. Every month, The Idaho Food Bank provides more than a million meals to men, women, and children around the state.
During the late Winter and Spring months, donations and volunteerism at the Idaho Food Bank, they say often go down. Million Meals in March has kicked off with a donation of more than $25,000 worth of food from Winco.
"It's really important to have nutritious items. Eighty-two percent of the food we distribute now is nutritious so, getting those donations especially from partners like Winco enables us to cheaply get food that doesn't just fill stomachs but also gives that nutritional value as well," said Mike Sharp, The Idaho Foodbank.
Bank of America is The Idaho Food Bank's champion this month, who will be providing a match for donations, so instead of your one dollar equaling four meals, it will make eight.
The Idaho food bank says there are several ways people can help as well. If you would like to do a food drive, The Idaho Food bank is asking for nutritious items like fruits, vegetables, canned proteins and peanut butter.
Throughout the month, The Idaho Food Bank says there are events going on across the community. Head to https://millionmealsidaho.org/ to find more information.
