MIDDLETON, Idaho — According to unofficial results, it appears that three members of the Middleton school board have survived a recall vote.

Recalls in the district require a majority of voters to be in favor of the recall, and the total votes cast in favor of the recall must equal or exceed the number of votes the trustee received in the last election.

Roughly 55 percent of the people who turned out voted in favor of recalling Zone 1 trustee Aleisha McConkie, but the total votes cast in favor of recalling her fell short of the necessary threshold.

Tim Winkle of Zone 3 and Marianne Blackwell of Zone 4 appear to have survived the vote as well, with just under 49 percent of voters voting for their recall.

The recall effort was sparked by parents unhappy with the school board's decision not to renew the contract of Middleton High School principal Ben Merrill.
