BOISE, Ida. — Metro Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to senior citizens across Ada County each day, but one recent delivery turned into a celebration for a special senior.

The non-profit made its usual route Thursday, delivering meals to seniors who are independent but may find it hard to cook for themselves. One senior on their route was celebrating a big milestone so they decided to celebrate along with her.

Myrle Tippets turned 100 this week. Thanks to Meals on Wheels, the Boise resident was treated to her regular food delivery and a special birthday cake and flowers.

"It's very good to have a meal brought in, and most of the time it's nice, and the girls that come are very nice when they come with the meal," Tibbets said.

Metro Meals on Wheels says it delivers some 1,000 meals each weekday and around 750 frozen meals every weekend. That's about 100 more meals than last year, mainly because more retirees are moving to the Boise area.
