MERIDIAN, Idaho — A Meridian man was arrested by a SWAT team Monday night after a standoff inside a Meridian home. Robert Wayne Berryman, 47, was arrested on two felony counts of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and resisting and obstructing a police officer, according to a Meridian Police Department news release.

The news release says around 6:15 p.m. Monday, police responded to a call about a domestic dispute on the 1700 block of West Claire Drive. Officers spoke with a woman who said Berryman had "battered her," according to the release. The woman also said Berryman pointed a rifle at her as she fled the home.

A witness to the incident told police a similar story, saying Berryman also pointed the rifle at them. Berryman then turned off his phone and barricaded himself in the house. The Ada County Metro SWAT Team then responded to the home and were not successful in negotiating with Berryman, according to the release.

The SWAT team went into the home and arrested Berryman around 11:30 p.m.
