It's easy to settle into a daily routine revolving around social media, T.V, movies and video games, but the city of Meridian is encouraging its citizens to get active!

This week they're hosting their sixth annual "Unplug and Be Outside" event.
It's a week filled with nearly 40 free activities for people of all ages to choose from like arts, sports, and recreation.

Their goal is to help people discover new activities, meet new people, and explore new places.
Renee White from Meridian Parks and Recreation stresses the importance of getting outside and staying active.

"It is really important for your physical mental and emotional health to set aside technology, to give yourself the opportunity to move yourself to move your body physically and to get involved in something that is not online," Said Renee.

Today's kick-off event was held at Kleiner park. Families could bring their bikes for free tire slime, check out jump rope lessons with the "Summerwind Skippers" or learn the ins and outs of various sports courtesy of Boise State Student-athletes.

The full schedule of events can be found on the City of Meridian website.
