Lavern and Wilma Ling married Nov. 7, 1942.
"I think God gave me the best husband in the world," Wima said.
"And he gave me the best wife," Lavern added.
The pair met at a church camp in the Midwest but never went on a date, communicating through cards and letters.
"We had written letters for two years back and forth," Lavern said.
It was through one of those letters the couple got engaged.
"Stamps were three cents back then," Wilma said.
The wedding took place in Lavern's packed family living room.
Wilma bought her dress on sale for three dollars.
"All those men and boys staring at me, I shook so hard I thought I would drop my bouquet," she said.
The couple moved from New Auburn, Wisconsin to Meridian in 1973.
They've outlived four of their seven children, survived through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. They say one principle guides them through.
"We forgive," Lavern said.
"I've been kind of mad at him and he's been kind of mad at me, but we forgive," Wilma said.
The Lings have been blessed with seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild with another on the way.
Happy Anniversary Lavern and Wilma!
