Idaho Power officials said almost 12,800 downtown and central Boise customers were without power for about 45 minutes Tuesday morning. The outage was first reported shortly after 9 a.m.

The impacted areas included:

Ridenbaugh Street to Union Street including the VA Hospital;

Capitol Blvd. to Americana Blvd.;

Grove Street to University Street;

State Street to Interstate 84;

Crestline Drive to 21st Street;

15th Street to Whitewater Park Blvd.;

Mountain View Drive to Interstate 84;

and 31st Street to Curtis Road.

“There were about 5,000 customers without service at 9:03 a.m. Then, at 9:18 a.m., we had reports of 12,799 customers out, primarily in the downtown Boise and the central ‘Bench’ areas,” said Idaho Power spokesman Brad Bowlin.

The cause of the outage has not yet been determined.

“Our first priority in a case like this is to safely restore power as quickly as possible to our customers, then to go back and try to determine the cause,” Bowlin said.
