Bruce Marchant, 62, who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of a Boise State University Honors College student last year, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Marchant, wearing an orange jail jumpsuit, appeared with his lawyer before an Ada County judge Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors had previously agreed to drop rape and kidnapping charges against Marchant, in exchange for his guilty plea.

Marchant had been charged in the death of BSU student Sierra Bush, 18, who was also known as Simon Bush. Bush’s body was found dumped in a creek near Idaho City last October.

Police arrested Marchant in New York City in December.
