A man armed with a handgun surrendered to Meridian Police officers after a stand-off that lasted almost one hour Thursday morning.

Police initially responded to a “shots fired” call about 9:45 a.m. in the 2500 block of Silver Leaf Way in north Meridian, west of the Cherry Lane Golf Course.

“We later learned the subject was in a backyard when he fired the shot, presumably into the air,” said Meridian Police Department Lt. Jamie Leslie.

A woman in the house at the time notified police. The man and the woman know each other.

“We surrounded the house and set up a perimeter,” Leslie said.

About 10:45 a.m., the man came out of the house and surrendered to police. He was then taken into custody.

No one was injured.

The man’s name has not yet been released. Police have also not released the caliber of handgun.

Silver Leaf Way is blocked off near West Talamore Blvd. while police negotiated with the suspect. Residents were told to stay in their homes.

Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted Meridian Police officers in keeping drivers away from the neighborhood.
