A Mountain Home man is behind bars facing a host of charges after police say he led them on a high-speed chase in Garden City.
Joshua Wickham is charged with felony eluding, DUI and driving without privileges among other traffic violations.
Police say it started Thursday around 4:30 p.m. in Garden City when officers responded to a problem subject call near E. 43rd and Adams St. Officers say after arriving on scene they tried to pull over Wickham, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina. That’s when they say he took off at high speeds on Chinden Blvd. Investigators say he put other drivers in danger with his aggressive driving and due to safety concerns officers ended their pursuit.
Not long after, dispatchers informed officers the car had been abandoned in the 5700 block of Glenwood and the people inside had taken off. After investigating the vehicle police found the license plates were fake. They are now looking to see if the car was stolen.
Wickham was eventually located and arrested. A female passenger in the car has not been found.
Officers say it’s fortunate this incident ended without any injuries.
"Due to the time of day and the amount of traffic on the road, this incident could have easily have had a different outcome. This is why officers discontinued the pursuit. Public safety is our number one priority and we felt that continuing the pursuit posed a too great of a risk to the public therefore we terminated the pursuit,” said Garden City Police Department Sgt. Angela Lythgoe. “However, in this case the officers did an excellent job establishing a perimeter and locating the suspect, resulting in a safe and successful apprehension”
