Addressing social issues can be tough to do in front of your peers, but Mountain View High School seniors Caitlyn Lanterman and Madison Collins didn't let that stop them.

The two began working on a video to submit for C-SPAN's annual student documentary competition. Students were asked what it means to be an American and were told to choose a constitutional right, national characteristic or historic event and explain how it defines the American experience. The pair decided to focus on immigration in America, especially how it impacts people locally.

More than 6,300 students all over the country participated in the contest, but Lanterman and Collins were one of 150 students to win. They received $250 and an honorable mention for their video.
