BOISE — The Lyft app is now paying drivers the moment they accept a job,not when they arrive at your location. Some drivers say it might actually be decreasing their pay.
The changes rolled out on Thursday, but drivers share that according to their new pay charts, they're making less. Before Thursday, drivers made roughly 79-cents per mile, but now they're making roughly 44 cents a mile... Whereas pay per minute has increased by 8 cents. However, the app says they could make adjustments once they see how it works out in the five cities trying it out.
"That's why this is kind of a slow rollout in the beginning, because we're definitely going to be learning from this and how it does affect just rider etas or driver earnings in general," said spokesperson for Lyft Eric Smith.
The changes don't affect the maximum or minimum rate or cancellation fees.
