BOISE COUNTY — A mudslide has closed SH-21 from Grandjean to Banner Summit.
The Boise County Sheriff's Office says the Grandjean Trailhead and Campground are closed after the area experienced flash floods. The sheriff's office says the same area was burned by the Wapiti Fire in 2024, which has played a role in the mudslides.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said, "This will not be an easy cleanup task. Please expect some time before the Forest Service has the area reopened."
The Idaho Transportation Department says all lanes are closed between mile marker 94 and mile marker 105. The closure was first reported at 5:37 p.m. Wednesday, and could last for about a week.
Travelers should expect delays and are advised to consider alternate routes.
"The maintenance crew up there is amazing, but the highway is under a layer of mud and trees right now," ITD said.
