“Being a teen parent is not for the faint of heart,” Robert Mills explains matter-of-factly.

Robert and Jessica Whitehouse became parents as teenagers and now in their young twenties, they realize it takes a village to raise a child.

Using a local organization called BabySteps located in Boise, the couple took classes on a variety of topics to help raise their daughter Athena.

“I named her that because Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and I figured when she's old enough to make decisions for herself, I hope she is a lot wiser than her dad was," Robert said.

The program gives out points to parents enrolled in the classes which can be redeemed for items like new clothes, diapers, and wipes.

Those items are supplied to the program through our 6 On Your Side Community Baby Shower that is now in its 10th year.

“It's really helped us because a lot of people donate diapers and they don't realize how much just two diapers matters. Yeah, it may be two diapers a day, but you know what? That's another day I don't have to buy diapers," Jessica said.
